Finding Pediatric Physiotherapy in Vancouver
Pediatric physio options around Vancouver, from clinics and home visits to intensive programs and BC Children's SPROUT, and the two our family uses.
Guide

In Boston, finding the right therapy center took us years (we wrote about it in Comparing Pediatric Therapy Options in Greater Boston). When we moved to Vancouver, we started over. Here's what we've found so far: the options we use, the ones other families recommend, and how public and private care fit together.

What our family uses
Kids Physio Group
Kids Physio Group is a pediatric-only physiotherapy group with Vancouver clinics on Cambie and Fraser, plus North Vancouver and Richmond. They see kids from birth to 18, including kids with physical and developmental disabilities, and offer intensive blocks of sessions. Our son goes here.
Jean Fan, private pediatric physiotherapist
Jean Fan is a pediatric physiotherapist with more than 30 years of experience, working privately across West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Vancouver, Richmond, and Burnaby. Her focus includes infants and kids with coordination challenges. She works with our son at home.
Other pediatric physio options
- SMILE Therapy for Kids Vancouver (New Westminster): pediatric physio for ages 0 to 10, including neurological conditions, intensive therapy programs, and Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI). Free 15-minute consult.
- Neuromotion (Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria): interdisciplinary care, with pediatric physio for cerebral palsy, motor delays, and high or low muscle tone.
- BC Centre for Ability: early intervention therapy from birth to kindergarten (publicly funded, for Vancouver, Burnaby, North and West Vancouver, and Richmond residents), plus school-age therapy.
- School-based therapy: public school students with physical and developmental disabilities can get physio and OT through school-aged therapy programs run by the health authority. Ask your school team.
Intensive rehab at BC Children's: SPROUT
SPROUT (Specialized Pediatric Rehabilitation Outpatient) is BC Children's Hospital's intensive outpatient rehab program for kids and youth up to 19 with complex needs. It's used before and after surgery, after a hospital stay, or to build function with a chronic condition. Plans run 2 to 12 weeks, one to five days a week. Your child needs to manage at least one 45-minute session two days a week, and a member of the care team makes the referral.
Paying for private physio
Private physio is usually paid out of pocket or through extended health insurance. Ask each provider about rates before booking, and check how many sessions your plan covers each year.
Questions we ask a new physio
- How many kids with my child's diagnosis do you see?
- Do you offer intensive blocks, home visits, or both?
- What equipment do you have, and can we try it before buying our own?
- Will you work with our school team, OT, and orthotist?
