We've used the standard setup with mountain-bike-style rear wheels and the included front balloon wheel. This worked well for supervised shallow water play (2–3 feet). We haven't tried the ski kit or full balloon wheel set, but both are available for families who spend more time on snow or sand.

Bottom line:
The Hippocampe has been a game-changer for our family's outdoor play. It isn't perfect, but it makes adventures on sand, snow, and trails possible — and fun.
